Join the EUMIG-BiH International Summer School in Sarajevo to explore EU migration governance, policy debates, and practical skills through lectures, workshops, and field visits.
About the Summer School
The EUMIG-BiH International Summer School, focusing on migration governance and EU norm alignment, is a five-day intensive, in-person programme dedicated to exploring contemporary migration governance challenges.
Bringing together students, researchers, and practitioners, the Summer School offers a unique opportunity to engage with key policy debates, regional dynamics, and evolving EU frameworks, including recent developments such as the New Pact on Migration and Asylum.
The Summer School combines academic lectures, interactive workshops, guest lectures, and field visits to relevant institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
About the EUMIG-BiH Project
The EUMIG-BiH project (Migration, Integration and Governance in Bosnia and Herzegovina – EU Standards and Local Challenges) is an Erasmus+ Jean Monnet module that connects academic research with professional expertise in EU migration studies. Hosted by the Sarajevo School of Science and Technology (SSST), the project focuses on contemporary trends and the alignment of local migration governance with EU policies and values. Through this interdisciplinary initiative, we aim to foster academic and public debate on migration policy in the context of EU integration, while providing participants with practice-oriented skills and a deeper understanding of EU migration governance and policy frameworks.
Aims and Focus
The Summer School aims to:
- Provide participants with an in-depth understanding of migration patterns
- Critically examine legal and policy frameworks
- Analyse the impact of EU integration processes on migration governance
- Strengthen practical skills through interactive and simulation-based learning
Special emphasis is placed on interdisciplinary approaches, critical thinking, and applied knowledge.

Programme Structure
The programme consists of daily classroom sessions combined with institutional visits and socio-cultural activities.
Active participation throughout the programme is required. Participants will also complete a short reflection paper at the end of the Summer School.
Target Group
We welcome applications from:
- Undergraduate and graduate students in social sciences, political science, international relations, law, economics, migration studies, and related fields
- Young professionals and early-career practitioners (e.g. media, NGOs, social workers, public administration)
- International and local participants with an interest in migration, EU integration, and South-East Europe
Certificate
Participants who successfully complete the programme will receive a certificate of completion.
Requirements include:
- Attendance at sessions and field visits
- Active participation
- Submission of a reflection paper
Location
The Summer School will take place at: Sarajevo School of Science and Technology (SSST), Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Additional activities will include visits to relevant institutions and socio-cultural sites.

Places are limited (max. 20 participants). Early applications are strongly encouraged.

Selection will be conducted on a rolling basis.
Practical Information
- Language of instruction: English
- Accommodation:Please note that accommodation and meals are not included and must be arranged individually by participants.
- Insurance: Participants must arrange their own health insurance.
- Visa requirements: Participants are responsible for arranging their own visa, if required. While organizers cannot directly assist with visa procedures, applicants are advised to consult the nearest embassy or consulate of Bosnia and Herzegovina regarding visa requirements and application procedures.
