Project Officer

in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina

The forumZFD office in Sarajevo is looking for a Project Officer to join our team starting from March 2025.

Who we are

Since 1996, forumZFD supports people involved in violent conflicts on the path to peace and strives to help overcome war and violence. We are currently working with teams of peace consultants and partners in Germany and twelve other countries in Europe, the Middle East and SouthEast Asia. Our Academy for Conflict Transformation offers training for engaging in professional and international peace work. Through campaigns, lobby work, and public relations we also pro-actively advocate civil peace policy. We are a recognised organization of the German Civil Peace Service (CPS) and finance our work through public and private grants, donations and membership fees.

forumZFD in the Western Balkans

The vision for our work in the Western Balkans is that peace is built and sustained through the synergies of active and responsible civil society, media, and institutions that are dealing with conflicts nonviolently and constructively. Working closely with local and regional partners we focus on central issues of dealing with the past, youth peace activism, and peace education in schools and universities. Our regional goals aim towards building strategic alliances of various civil society actors to undertake joint actions for responsibly dealing with the past in public spaces, countering the instrumentalization of the past in the various education systems, advocating with partners to strengthen the commitment of key political actors toward implementing mechanisms of transitional justice, as well as to publicly challenging ethnocentric narratives and revealing marginalized perspectives related to the past.

Your tasks and responsibilities

The Project Officer’s primary role is to collaborate with and support project managers in the design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation, as well as reporting of projects, ensuring they are carried out effectively and in alignment with best practices and donor requirements. The main areas of responsibility include both technical and administrative support, such as contributing to project planning, execution, and reporting. Translation and interpretation may also be required as needed. Additionally, the post holder will assist in applying Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation (PM&E) methodologies.

Specific tasks include, but are not limited to:

Programme development 

  • Support the implementation of the projects according to donor requirements and programme strategies.
  • Support the application of PM&E methodology according to forumZFD PM&E standards and requirements
  • Assist with the submission of the annual narrative report to head office 
  • Facilitate networking and coordinating with partners in initiating and implementing collaborative peacebuilding activities or initiatives

Project development and implementation 

  • Assist in the design of new project ideas and project components
  • Support the implementation of activity or a set of activities to achieve specific project outputs, including contributing to the development of tangible project-related products, such as media content, educational materials, and organizing or conducting training and events.
  • Support with the application of planning, monitoring, and evaluation (PM&E) processes at project level 
  • Contribute to reporting on project implementation in alignment with forumZFD’s internal PM&E systems
  • Support the work of project managers in line with project goals and needs for implementation
  • Assist in fundraising opportunities for third-party donors 

External relations, networking, coordination, office communication

  • Support with cooperation with national or international organisations
  • Support with PR activities (programme social media, programme website, leaflets etc.) in country and with forumZFD head office

Office management 

  • Support with maintaining the functionality of office hardware, as well as with administration and logistics

Finance management

  • Support to the annual planning of the programme in-country budget
  • Support with the usage and reporting of in-country funds in accordance with existing forumZFD, donor requirements and local laws 
  • Responsible for managing procurement processes necessary for the organization's operations

Qualifications:

  • Degree in social sciences, gender studies, international development, or other relevant fields;
  • Min. 2 years of professional experience in project implementation work, preferably with capacity building initiatives, or civil society strengthening;
  • Experience in facilitating workshops, training and sharing skill building know-how desirable; applying creative tools and methodologies is an added value;
  • Relevant understanding in working with M&E tools, including activity indicators and project outputs;
  • Professional working proficiency and good reporting skills in English;
  • A high level of personal efficiency and an ability to balance multiple tasks
  • Experience in working with multicultural teams and a good ability to work independently as well as in cooperation with team members
  • Possession of a valid category B driver's license and experience in driving

  • Strong social competence, capacity for teamwork and ability to integrate quickly into daily project routine;
  • Strong ability to think strategically and conceptually;
  • Independent proactive planning highly desirable
  • Sensitivity to age, gender, and diversity mainstreaming

  • Exhibit patience and persistence to develop relationships with different stakeholders
  • High standard of professionalism, team player and a capacity builder
